Alphabet Review
Here’s a simple and quick review that you can use to start a second episode of a live virtual workshop, before or after a break or mid-morning/mid-afternoon in the physical training room or any time you just want to change things up a little but still keep the focus upon content.
nb- with a little twist, you can easily use this as part of a close either in the virtual or physical training room.
Preparation
- Virtual training room – prepare a slide with the heading ‘Key Ideas’ for learners to write on (Zoom/Webex via Annotate, Teams via an interactive slide)
- Physical training room – Place a flip chart sheet on the wall with the heading ‘Key Ideas’ (if the group is large, place several flip chart sheet around the room).
Facilitating the activity
- Say to learners, “When I say ‘Go’, I’d like you to go through the alphabet A-Z in your head. When I say stop, I’d like you to remember the letter you stopped on. ‘Go’.”
- Allow 5-6 seconds.
- Say, “Stop”.
- “With the letter that you stopped on, please think about one key idea from the training so far that starts with that letter – you can be creative if it’s a tricky letter”.
- Allow 30 seconds for people to think of their key point.
- Ask learners to share their key idea:
-Virtual training room – using the slide or chat – or for a small group, the microphone.
-Physical training room – on the prepared flip-chart(s).
Call to Action
Remember, ‘Use it or Loose it’ is very true. If learners don’t keep coming back to content then they’re unlikely to be able to recall it – even by the next day. Reviews can be quick and simple like this one. Try it!
